Exosome

Exosomes are distinct cellular entities, released from cells into the surrounding extracellular fluids. They function as ‘Avatars’ of the cells, representing the characteristics of such cell. Exosomes play significant roles in cell to cell signaling, its contents such as RNA, proteins and lipids modulating the activity of the target cell. We aim to investigate the role of exosomes in intermembrane signaling and develop exosome engineering techniques to utilize exosomes as nanoscale delivery vehicles. 

‘엑소좀 (exosome)’은 세포에서 체액으로 분비되는 나노 사이즈의 extracellular vesicles로서 이를 분비한 세포의 특성을 대변하는 아바타(Avatar) 역할을 수행한다. 또한, 엑소좀은 세포간 상호작용을 조절하는 신호 전달 매개체로 표적 세포의 성장, 이동, 분화, 사멸을 포함한 모든 세포 행동을 조절한다고 보고되고 있다. 본 연구팀에서는 엑소좀이 intermembrane signaling에서 어떠한 역할을 하는지 밝히고, 그 기능을 응용한 엑소좀 엔지니어링 기법을 개발하여 새로운 나노융합 전달체로 엑소좀을 활용하고자 한다.
